It’s time to face the facts. Those aches and pains in your joints aren’t going to just go away.

We all reach that age when it becomes necessary to start focusing on taking better care of ourselves.  And that includes our joints.  With a little prevention though, we can avoid developing arthritis, suffering from chronic pain, or having to undergo joint replacement surgeries.

Simple tips to protect your joints.

Joint inflammation and arthritis can not only make life more painful, but they can also negatively impact your health by preventing you from exercising.  With a few minor changes to your diet and exercise regimen, however, you can prevent further damage to your knees, wrists, neck, and back.  And you can even restore mobility and reduce pain!

  • Stay Active.  Regular, light-intensity exercise (such as walking) can keep joints flexible and supple.  Avoid high-intensity exercise such as running if you are at risk of developing arthritis or other joint disorders.  Regular exercise can also help you maintain a healthy weight.
  • Stretch Those Muscles.  Stretching can be done anytime - first thing in the morning, before and following exercise, or as a relaxing nighttime activity.  While stretching, take your time and never overdo it.  Remember that a longer, gentler stretch is better than a short, uncomfortable one.
  • Pay Attention to the Scale.  Weight and joint health are closely related.  On average, adults gain one pound of fat per year.  This is one area where we don’t want to be above average!  Excessive weight can put a high amount of pressure on the neck, knees, and back.  Being overweight can also increase the body’s inflammatory response, limiting joint mobility and increasing joint pain and stiffness.
  • Eat Right.  What you eat can affect inflammation.  Processed meats, high-fat foods and sugar can all increase inflammation and soreness.  A diet high in fruits and vegetables, high-quality grains, and lean protein can reduce inflammation and improve your overall quality of life.

The experts agree that omega-3 fish oil is critical to joint health.

Doctors, scientists, authors, leading universities, and others are all unanimous in their support for omega-3 fish oil.  Here is a sampling of what they have to say:

"Most people need to supplement their intake of omega-3 fatty acids to maintain or gain better health.  This is particularly true for those with chronic problems like arthritis.  I strongly recommend taking a high concentrated EPA/DHA softgel that is molecularly distilled.”
-  Susie Rockway, Ph.D., C.N.S.

"The healthiest of fats for people with arthritis or other inflammatory disorders are omega-3 fatty acids, one of the polyunsaturated fats. While other foods increase levels of inflammation in the body, omega-3s actually work to decrease inflammation by suppressing the production of cytokines and enzymes that erode cartilage. More than a dozen studies have demonstrated that omega-3 fish oils can reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis...the anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3s are so potent that I recommend an omega-3 rich diet (and in some instances, fish oil supplements) to all my clients with arthritis. I’ve seen some amazing success stories."
