Do you know the omega-3 content of the seafood you eat?

Growing up close to the Gulf of Mexico, I ate plenty of seafood especially shrimp, flounder, and grouper.  I was pretty confident that I received plenty of omega-3 during that time.  However, I never really knew how much omega-3 I was getting until I received an email asking about the amount of omega-3 in shrimp.  So, I decided to look it up, and I was shocked to find out that both flounder and grouper have just 100 mg EPA per serving, and shrimp only has trace amounts.  All along even though I was getting 2 servings of fish per week, I still wasn’t getting close to the minimum amount of omega-3 that is recommended.

That is why, even if we have the best intentions and try our hardest to be healthy, there’s still more we can do – we must supplement to get the omega-3 that our bodies need.  I still eat seafood often, but I depend on the 3 Life softgels I take daily to keep me healthy.

I was eating fish sticks three times a week for awhile, thinking that I was getting my omega-3 from them (yes it does seem kinda silly in retrospect). Commercial fish sticks, however, have very very little omega-3 left in them when they reach your plate. It just goes to show that just because it's fish doesn't mean it's full of Omega-3!
