I am glad that I changed my diet some time ago so that it includes fish, mainly salmon which I like more than any other fish. After reading about the Omega-3 fatty acids I was delighted to learn that I've added something so incredibly healthy to my diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish like salmon, trout, and herring as well as walnuts, canola oil, and flaxseed. The benefit from eating the foods just mentioned is found in the Omega-3 fatty acid they contain. Omega-3s are great for cardiovascular health.
A study of significant importance shows that a modest intake of Omega-3 fatty acids reduces the risk of dying from a heart attack by 36%. The study's co-author Dariush Mozaffarian confirms that by saying that there is "enough evidence now to indicate that eating fish once or twice per week, choosing from a variety of fish, confers a benefit as strong or stronger than any other food for cardiovascular health" (Parker, H).
I found one interesting video by a medical student explaining in a lot more detail about Omega-3 fatty acids and the benefits we could all get from their consumption:
